Ottawa Snooker Club – Etiquette Guidelines
Effective April 20, 2024
Snooker is a quiet and difficult game. You can find many guides online on etiquette related to snooker. Some important guidelines are documented here. These guidelines intend to allow all players to enjoy their time at the snooker table and to inform newcomers to the game about general behavior expectations.
- Use your inside voice. There is rarely a need to yell around a snooker table
- If you are in a shooting player’s line of sight, be still and quiet.
- If you’re not the active player at a table, be well out of the way at the ends of the table. The area between the tables and the lounge has been made very wide to accommodate.
- Spot your opponents balls (if you’re close by) and keep their score
- Share the space with players on adjacent tables. Take turns and give the other player space and quiet while they are shooting
Table Care
- Gently place a ball near its spot and roll it onto the spot. Consistently placing the ball directly on the spot will wear the spot earlier than the rest of the cloth. If this happens, pasted dots will be put on the spots.
- Brushes and a Block are available at the club. Members may use these before or after their play, but only if they know how to do this properly. Brush with the nap (rail tops have nap too), block with the nap. If in doubt, ask club management or an experienced member for a quick tutorial.
- Play with clean hands. Food and drink are allowed in the club, but please eat when you’re not playing and wash your hands before going to the tables.
